How to Find a Job in Serbia Before You Move 🇷🇸

Moving abroad is never easy — especially when you also need to find a job. Not everyone has savings to fall back on, and not everyone is ready to just pack up and go without a plan. That’s why more and more people try to land a job beforethey arrive. And yes, it’s absolutely possible. At Ovde Jobs, we help people do this every day — some go through interviews while still abroad, some sign offers remotely, and some even start working for a Serbian or international company before they’ve even landed here. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started if you want to find a job in Serbia before making the move.

Table of Contents

1. Get clear on what you’re looking for

Before you polish your CV, take a moment to define:

  • What industry do you want to work in?
  • What’s the income you expect? (Note: salaries in Serbia might differ from what you’re used to.)
  • Are you open to local companies, or only interested in international ones?

❗ Serbia currently has high demand for:

  • IT & digital roles (both remote and on-site)
  • Customer support (especially with foreign languages)
  • Admin positions in international companies
  • English teachers and other language instructors
  • Service industry roles (usually require Serbian)

2. Where to job hunt from abroad

  • Our platform: ovdejobs.com – listings from both local and international companies open to candidates applying from outside Serbia
  • Local job boards: Infostud, Poslovi.rs, Helloworld
  • LinkedIn – works well for international or tech-related jobs
  • Telegram & Facebook groups for Russian-speaking expats in Serbia (like our “Работа в Сербии” channel)
  • Smaller Serbian agencies – good for niche or specialized roles

💡 On Ovde Jobs, you can mark your profile as “currently abroad” — so employers know you’re looking remotely.

3. Adapt your CV for the local market

If you’re applying to international companies, your usual CV format should work. For local roles (especially outside IT), a few tweaks help:

  • Skip the photo — not really necessary
  • Keep the structure clear: work experience, skills, contacts, languages
  • Mention when you’re available to move, and whether you already have residency
  • A short, focused cover letter = higher chance of a reply

4. Don’t stress about online interviews

Most Serbian employers are comfortable with Zoom interviews. In fact, the final interview often happens while you’re still abroad.
Some companies will even help you with visa or work permit paperwork — especially if they really want you.

5. What about the documents?

If you’re a citizen of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, or several other countries, you can enter Serbia visa-free, but you still need a permit to work legally.

To get everything sorted in advance:

  • Secure a job offer and check if the employer is open to starting the paperwork before you arrive
  • You’ll usually need: a CV, passport copy, a (temporary) address in Serbia, health insurance, diploma(s), and a few more things listed on the Ministry of Interior website

6. Tips & hacks that actually work

  • Talk to people — in forums, groups, LinkedIn. Personal connections still matter here
  • Don’t be afraid to apply even if it says “with residency only”. Ask anyway — many companies are flexible for the right candidate
  • Start learning Serbian. Even basic phrases will make a good impression in interviews
  • Look for companies that already employ foreigners — they’re more likely to have relocation processes in place

7. And most importantly — just start

We’ve seen dozens of success stories: someone from Yerevan, Astana, or Moscow lands a job in Belgrade and arrives with a signed contract in hand.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start with one application — and you’re already closer to your goal.
